How Do You Manager Your List After You Build It?

I wish I had written this, but this was done by a friend of mine and I borrowed it from him.  This will help you build your list especially if you have never done it before.   Enjoy.

It looks like you’re all very keen to learn more about List Building…

So here goes!

The first thing you’ve got to do when starting to build a list is….

Getting a lead capture system in place!

The cool guys call it a ‘funnel’

But we’re not interested in a massive 10 level-deep funnel!

You need only 2 pages…. that’s it!

1) An Opt-in page (where people can put in their email)….

2) And a ‘Thank you’ page to say ‘thanks’ and let your new subscribers download a free gift or something.

Don’t over-complicate this.

That’s a problem I’m seeing in the IM world in the last couple of years.

Everyone makes things so frikkin complicated! List building really is a SIMPLE business, which is why I love it so much, so let’s keep it that way.

Get your two pages up online.

Use Convertri or a WP plugin like ‘instabuilder’ on your WP site to build them. Any one of the hundreds of page builders out there will work… but I really like Convertri.

No matter which page builder you use, one other thing you need for everything to work is to integrate an autoresponder system into it. (An autoresponder is an email marketing management software or ‘app’)

I use and recommend TrafficWave to capture emails and automate my email marketing. You need an autoresponder to capture and manage the email leads that you get from your lead capture page.

Just collect email. Forget collecting names. Everyone knows they’re going onto a ‘list’ when they submit their details. and people are lazy and don’t want to type their name into an extra field… so to get the best sign-up rate possible, just ask for their email.

Next, you’re going to need something to get people on your list. An ethical ‘bribe’… or some ‘bait’ to wave in front of people’s faces. Some people call these ‘lead magnets’. This is what you will offer in exchange for peoples’ email addresses.

Your ‘bait’ has to be something of value. It must be desirable, something worth them giving over their email and space in their inbox for.

The best type of bribe I have used is to give away a ‘secret’ of some sort. Just one secret is enough. You don’t have to give away the whole farm for free!

If you know your niche well enough, then it will be easy to come up with a ‘secret’ to dangle in front of them that they will happily hand over their email for.

Another tip… what you give away must be available to them immediately! E.g. an instant download or a video or audio they can listen to right away. Case studies are awesome too!

When you set up your autoresponder, have your subscriber confirm his/her email (yes double opt-in is for winners) and have the confirmation link redirect to your thank you page.

Your subscribers will love you!

And there you have it.

That’s all for the first lesson!

Got it?

Lead capture page, thank you page, autoresponder, a free ‘bribe’ gift to offer as bait for their email, give it to them after they confirm their email.

I know a lot of you already have something like this up online.

How does your lead capture system perform? If you want to make it better, get a better cover or graphic, re-write the headline on your opt-in page. Use faster hosting (Convertri is very fast) or create a juicier ‘bribe’.

Next time, I’ll tell you about the next step!

What is the next step? You’ll just have to tune in to see.
